Revd. Alison Mathew - Foundation Governor

I moved to Kennington in September 2015 to take up the part time post of Associate Minister for the Benefice of Radley, Sunningwell and Kennington and I work alongside the Revd Glynis Beckett and Revd Tony Rogerson as part of a team serving the three villages. Our Rector, Revd Pam McKellen, has recently retired and we will be seeking a new person to take up this role in the coming months.

I moved to Kennington from London, where, prior to ordination I had a 14 year career in the NHS as a community nurse and then in public health before moving on to work for the Christian overseas relief and development charity, Tearfund for 8 years. My work with them was based in London, initially in administration, supporting volunteers and churches and laterally using my public health background working with their HIV/AIDS advisor. During this time I studied part time for an English and Creative Writing degree with the thought that I may become a secondary school teacher – however, instead, I found myself heading off to Cuddesdon, in South Oxford, to train for ministry in the Church of England!

I am passionate about the role of education in helping children and young people grow and develop to their full potential and I am really pleased to be taking up the role of Foundation Governor. I am looking forward to getting to know the school community, and, alongside my clergy colleagues and other members of our church community; to joining in with collective worship, to supporting the work of the school and to building on the growing links between the school and the parish church of St. Swithun’s.
