Helen Forey - Chair

I became a Parent Governor in 2013, after my son had been at St Swithun's for 3 years. We moved to Kennington in 2008 and I enjoy village life and participating in many of the activities the community offers.

I studied modern languages at the Universities of Oxford and Cardiff and am passionate about the value of learning languages from an early age. After beginning my career in education (teaching English in France and then supporting International Baccalaureate teachers and examiners), I spent the next 15 years working in a variety of product, marketing and DVD production roles in the classical music business for Decca and EMI, combining languages with my love of music. Most recently I was Deputy Managing Director of a media agency and bring financial acumen and an entrepreneurial outlook to my role as a governor. Four years of commuting to London on the Oxford Tube proved enough for me and in 2011 I decided to retrain in career guidance, studying for an MA at the University of Warwick, where my research interests include career-related learning and the career development of young people who study abroad. I currently work with international students aged 18-20 and advise on transition to higher education in the UK, Canada and EU.

I seem to spend most weekends freezing on a touchline as my son takes part in one sport or another and in my free time I enjoy watching Wales win at rugby and trying (and failing) to convert him into a fan!

After two years as a parent governor, I became the school’s Local Authority Governor and in 2015 became chair of the governing body. I commit time and energy to working with and supporting our school so that it delivers the best possible teaching and learning for all our children.
